David in the 1st qualification route – (c) Vertical Axis

The first German Lead Cup of this year has been a great event held in Darmstadt near Frankfurt. On last saturday there were the lead qualifs of the youth categories followed by the speed youth comp. On sunday it was the adults‘ turn (qualifs + finals) with the youth lead finals in between.

Ruben was preparing himself with intense lead training in Hanover and Hamburg besides working for several exams at school. It’s his last year in highschool. So it becomes time-consuming and of course stressful. David just came back from the Petzl Roctrip 2014 making its way from Romania to Turkey via Bulgaria, Mazedonia and Greece within 40 days with 10 different base camps (more news to come here!). So recently he has been climbing on the rocks. Weiterlesen

Hey there!

Last year I made an interview (in german) with the austrian climber Jürgen Reis who is also owner of the biggest climbing podcast platform in Europe. He interviewed me just before I did „Era Vella“ (9a) in Spain 2013 and asked me mainly questions about my training in my upcoming hypertrophy stage. Check it out and enjoy!

Summer in Kalymnos

Recently I´ve been to Kalymnos (a Greek island) with my girlfriend Camille Masseran and her parents. Kalymnos is well known for its great limestone climbing on tufas and the “North Face Climbing Festival” which takes place there every year. The Island is special for its dry but beautiful landscape and small villages from where you always have a great view of the clear sea and the cliffs above. Climbing in Kalymnos is possible even in the summer because I’ve experienced that in the big caves the conditions are good in the shade in the morning. Weiterlesen

Alps Session Nr. 1

After Fontainebleau became too hot in the beginning of May I headed over into the Alps visiting some of its best bouldering areas such as Magic Wood in Switzerland and Silvretta in Austria. I was lucky that there always was someone to record my hard ascents. In this case thanks to Michael Paulus, Georg Grubner and Ilari Kelloniemi! Here is a short video clip with three top-class problems I’ve done in May and June. I hope you like it ;-)

Cheers David

European Boulder Champion in Arco

Last weekend, the European Youth Championships took place in Arco (Italy). In my last youth boulder competition, before I definitely will move to the men’s class by next year, I was able to win the European Junior Championship and to secure the European Junior Cup after a previous victory at the Boulder EYC in L’Argentière (France) and a second place in Längenfeld (Austria ). I feel happy and proud. It was so much fun to climb to the bet with my strong friends Michael Piccolruaz (Italy), Alex Khazonov (Israel), Elias Weiler (Austria) and Gregor Vezonik (Slovenia). Thanks to all who have supported me and cheered me up the wall. In Arco my time at the international youth competition circuit has begun in 2006 with a silver medal at the Rock Junior in Speed climbing and now a circle is completed by winning the Junior European Championship. A beautiful time with many international youth podiums now has come to an end. For the next two weeks I once again will be on the road with Ruben for some rock bouldering in South Tyrol before on September, 19-20th I will finish my this year’s boulder competition season at the Adidas Rockstars in Stuttgart (Germany).

Official Report

4 x 8B in Font

This year’s April and May I’ve spent 3 weeks in Fontainebleau to try demanding boulder problems on my personal limit. It was super fun and motivating to see and feel how I was improving and I really enjoyed the challenge to go this specific step further in my personal bouldering, even if there were sometimes hard and frustrating moments. I also took my camera with me and recorded some ascents. Here is a short video clip featuring four 8B’s I’ve done in the forest. I hope You like it! Cheers David ;-)

My team mate Max Prinz and I competed last weekend at the European Youth Bouldering Cup at Längenfeld in Austria during the Ötztaler Kletterfestival and could take two medals back home with us. It was a nice event despite the rainy and cold weather. Here is an article (in German) I wrote for our local climbing website www.kletternimnorden.de in Northern Germany.

Take care, David ;-)

Hard moves in Kjugekull (SWE)

Here we go with a video about Kjugekull’s hardest classics (full report)! We hope You like it and visit the area one day as well. Thanks to everyone for the great time we had together ;-) We want to come back soon… Cheers David

Three months of meeting inspiring climbers

Deep Throat (8B), Magic Wood - (c) Markus Ixmeier

Deep Throat (8B), Magic Wood – (c) Markus Ixmeier

From April until July I’ve been traveling from Sweden via Fontainebleau into the Alps bouldering without touching my harness and rope a single time. I’ve also been competing at boulder competitions. I even could win the German Seniors’ National Boulder Cup  in Auerbach, the German Juniors’ Championship in Friedrichshafen and the International Juniors’ EYC in L’Argentière. During these months on the road I’ve met inspiring people and had amazing climbing experiences. I’ve discovered gorgeous places and widen my horizons.
I’ve sent many hard boulders up to 8B+ (see: tick list on 8a.nu) in that time and increased my climbing level significantly. Thank You everyone I met for this unforgettable time we’ve had! Here is a “potpourri” of some  impressions I can give and some reports that have been published. There are some video clips to start with, too. Weiterlesen

School & Climbing – Kalymnos

Presentation

Presentation

Recently I made this public presentation (in German) about the climbing activities at my School – CJD Elze (near Hannover, North of Germany). Included you can find a couple of pictures from Kalymnos (Fotographer: Reiner Eder © VISUAL IMPACT GmbH) where I stayed together with the swiss climbing team from Zurich on Easter. The Kalymnos pics can be started as a slide show by clicking the play button (searching for it with the cursor on the bottom of the first slide; it might take some time to load the slide show!).

More about climbing and school you can find here on this blog.
