After I had finished my first sports exam and some driving lessons in Hannover I spent almost one week in Munich with Chris Hanke and his girlfriend Chiara Clostermann. It was great time together. We were training for the next comps in the climbing halls of Munich and Regensburg, he showed me some nice places in the city, we had comfy evenings in their one room flat, listening to music and were cooking delicious meals with a lot of fun and energy.
One day we had the chance to go out to the rocks of Kochel which later shaped up as an amazing idea. Nice weather, perfect moves on limestone and motivation were the main components of this climbing day. Located above a clear lake and enjoyable cool wood around Kochel is definitely a must do for every climber who wants to try some hard stuff (boulders and routes) in Southern Germany.
I was able to climb the 20 meters classic „Conan the relaxer“ (8a+) at the Afrikawand. It is a pumpy and various route mainly on crimps and sideholds. I was very close to onsight it but slipped away at the very end. Furthermore I ticked the bouldery „Transylvania“ (8b) and „Russians“ (8a+/8b) in my second go (take a look at my 8a.nu profile). Congrats to Chris who did „Transylvania“ too! It was a very amusing day out there with him. He is very sympathetic and it always makes fun to do climbing sessions with him. Next time when I’m in Munich we should do this again!
